“How long are you going to wait for her?” Sathi asked.

Eben pursed his lips. “I trust Abi. If she has an idea, I'm willing to wait and see what it is.”

At the moment they were out of sight of his father’s guards, but there was no telling how long that would last. Once they'd dealt with the forces coming in from the west, they'd turn their attention elsewhere and patrol the rest of the palace. Hopefully Abi wasn't lying when she said it would be just a minute.

Eben peeked around the corner, spying on the loyalists gathered at the far end of the hall. They weren't just standing around waiting for orders; they were active. Some were monitoring the halls, others going in and out of the courtyard. Perhaps they were expecting an aerial assault from there. That would've been worth suggesting to Bakha, but it was too late to change plans now.

One of the guards tapped on Eben’s shoulder, pointed down the hall. “Your highness, look.”

A crowd of women flooded in through a side entrance to the hallway. The loyalists were immediately taken aback with what was going on.

“That's the distraction?” Sathi wondered. “What's that going to do?”

But Eben saw that the women weren't just running through the halls, they were angry. And they were turning that anger on the loyalists.

“We move in. We can use them as cover to get to the balcony and pick off the loyalists from there,” Eben said.

They filed out behind the throng of women, who were the perfect distraction for the loyalist guards. They weren't able to lay a finger on the women, let alone move them out of their way. Eben and his company took a left hand turn, climbed a set of stairs, and hurried to the balcony overlooking the halls below. The guards took positions and fired off several rounds. The loyalists below were caught off guard, and the women were startled into a stampede. When they passed, Eben and his group were able to take a few shots at the loyalists below until the hall was cleared out.

Eben straightened. “Inform Lord Bakha that we've made it to the courtyard.”

One of the guards passed on the update over the comm. Down below, Eben spotted Abi walking over the bodies of the fallen guards. She had a rifle in her hand, and a trophy of a Mesav helmet on her head.

“You like my diversion, your highness?” she asked with a bow.

Eben smiled. “It worked well.”

Sathi still seemed bemused over the whole situation. “Why were they powerless to do anything to the women? I don't understand.”

“You have a lot to learn about Mesav still.”

The guard on the comm held his wireless to his chest. “Your highness, Lord Bakha and his forced have secured the rest of the palace. Aside from a few loyalists, the palace is yours.”

Eben nodded. “Let me speak with him.” He took the wireless from the guard and held it to his ear. “Did you find him?”

“My prince,” Bakha said, surprised to hear him on the other end of the line.
